African Safaris

If you really want to have a true African Safari experience, rather counter intuitively, you need to get away from the herds! ….and by this we mean the ‘herds’ of other tourists. You need to get out where you can see and hear what’s going on, you need to spend your evening sat around a campfire with the darkness all around – listening to the lions and hyenas roaring across the bush – to spend the evening with JUST your group in a small intimate camp … talking about the experiences you have had during the day and the ones you have yet to have tomorrow.
Our aim is always to get you as far from the beaten track as we can – to give you as many different experiences as we can – to get you out of the car whenever we can to really feel and, yes, smell Africa (you don’t really know how powerful this is until your walking guide stops and says he can smell a buffalo in the area!) …. You are going to get hot and sweaty and bugs are going to bite you … but the reward is incredible

Walking in the Serengeti

Absolutely hands down the best thing ever!!! ….. it wasn’t permitted until about 10 years ago and there are still vast areas to explore that no one has visited for more than half a century. No trails, no designated campsites …. Just you and your guide wandering around exploring, climbing kopjes, crossing gorges and looking for animals.

Best is to go for 3 or 4 nights – the camp moves each day (there is a team that does this for you!) to a new location so it really is like going on a journey through the wilderness. Comfortable camps with beds, showers etc and great food!
This trip will bring you alive – it will be like nothing you have done before- we promise!

Game Drive for all

This sounds so much like all those normal safaris that you see in the brochure form the travel agent! …but its not. We will design something that will get you to some really out of the way places and take you to see some incredible sights. We will design a trip that YOU want, that suits YOUR group and their interests and needs.

If you have kids with you (they will LOVE it!) then we will work out ways to get them more engaged and out of the vehicle …. It you are feeling more adventurous we will plan some real WOW! Experiences …. And it you want to be romantic we will take you to some laces that will blow you away!

Get immersed in the culture

There are well over 150 tribes in Tanzania alone, but in our opinion the Hadza are by far the coolest and the most fascinating to spend time with. There are sadly not too many of them left but we have befriended one particular ‘clan’ or loose extended family group who live to the south of Ngorongoro. They live their lives as our ancient ancestors did – hunting wildlife and digging for tubers for sustenance. They are an incredibly gentle people living in harmony with the land.

We will put up a lightweight camp very close to their village and you can join in the lives, from making bows and arrows to harvesting honey or joining one of the hunts – its all fascinating eye opening.

Adventure for all

We are here to make your Tanzanian Safari a trip of a lifetime! We can adapt the itinerary depending on what you’d like to do. We have given some ideas here but there possibilities are endless. From Sea, lake, mountains, grass plains, the list could go on!

Uganda Safaris

Why Uganda?WildernessCulturalGet in touch

From Murchison to Queen Elizabeth

The list of great Ugandan Parks reads like the hall of fame and goes on and on from Murchison to Queen Elizabeth and the magnificently names Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. All are incredible and if you would like to go and see the gorillas or the thundering waterfalls we can certainly take you there ….. in fact we recommend it as part of your trip …but there is more

Activities for all!

Uganda is a landlocked country which is a neighboring country to Tanzania, Kenya and DRC. The southern part is made up of a substanial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Tanzania and Kenya. Uganda also lies within the Nile basin and has the amazing Jinja National Park where there are lots of fun activities to embark on.

DRC Safaris

Not many folks think of the Congo as a holiday destination, but it’s definitely on our list of great experiences.
There are two great things to do in the Congo at the moment – both in the North of the country so you access it from Rwanda.
Rather sadly the DRC is closed at the moment because of more unrest …but as soon as its safe we will be back there in a shot!

Why DRC?Gorilla trekkingNyiragongo VolcanoGet in touch

So untouched

We love is simply because it’s just soooooooooo untouched by tourism …there have been a sprinkling of intrepid travellers in there over the past 10 years but its such a vast country that its had very little impact.

The country has more than its fair share of problems form the appalling colonial legacy to the blessing or curse (depending on your point of view and where you are on the exploitation chain!) of abundant rare minerals to mine – it’s also absolutely vast and is ‘governed’ from the capital way way over on the Atlantic coast – it means the governments reach is limited.

To the amazing Gorillas of DRC

So what do we love about the DRC – well its all of the above but chiefly the sense of being somewhere new and unspoilt ….and the unique things you can do there. The gorilla trekking is – in our opinion – so much nicer than either Uganda or Rwanda – in either of these places the viewing is ‘slick’ …you get a bit of the feeling that they have had hundred of people today and will have hundreds of people tomorrow and you are just another sausage in the machine! …..

in the DRC there are very few people going viewing – often just your party, the locations are well spread out so you don’t see the others so you feel really SPECIAL …..like it’s a unique experience that ONLY YOU are lucky enough to experience …….

Hike up to largest lava lake in the world

But there is more ….. possibly even more amazing than the gorillas (and it has to have some serious WOW! To top the gorillas) is the climb up Mt Nyiragongo and to stare totally mesmerised into the largest lava lake in the world – its like the biggest campfire you have ever seen on Marvel sized steroids – it bubbles, it twists, it flows, it sinks, it forms and breaks a crust.

….and even sitting on the rim with your legs dangling over the edge more than a thousand feet away you can feel the heat ….. one of those treasured life memories.

Adventure for all

There are lots of options in DRC – from Gorilla trekking, climbing Mt Nyiragongo to see the largest lava lake in the world, to camping on a semi sunken caldera on Lake Kivu to trekking and wildlife adventures ….. if you have a yen for something outside the box and want to adventure and trills – and experiences – talk to us about the DRC!!!

Morocco Safaris

Few places pull up more of a vision of romance and exotic adventure than Morocco – and it doesn’t fail to live up to this.
From the vast, unending sand dunes that march across the desert to the iconic blue fishing boats on the Atlantic coast – from a secret Riyad near the souk in Marrakesh to staying in a Berber camp in the desert.

Why Morocco?Desert funCoastal funGet in touch

The love for desert and ocean combined!

With our experience and great network of personal contacts in Morocco we can set up the adventure of a lifetime – from sand surfing in the Sahara to real surfing in Sidi Kaouki/ from camel trekking to trekking in the High Atlas Mountains ….. swimming in a remote oasis or perhaps strolling the teeming blue bazaars and souks of Chefaouen.

Desert, mountains, shopping, Morocco has it all

Whatever it is you are hankering for Rare Trails have either ‘been there done that’ or can hook you up with someone who has …….

Ride along the sandy beaches

Experience the magic of horse riding on the beach in Morocco. You can ride at sunset along the coastline and feel the wind in your hair.

Whether with a partner or friends experience the incredible sense of freedom in a tranquil and beautiful romantic setting. Few things can match the sheer magnificence of a Moroccan sunset – so do not miss this opportunity to witness the mesmerising shades of orange and yellow blending in the blue sky while the sun sinks into the ocean.

And if you don’t ride, don’t worry! There are other ocean sporting acitivites such as surfing, otherwise, if you’re not into sporting acitivites, why not just enjoy a cocktail whilst the sunsets from a beautiful beach?!
