Piki Piki (motorbike) adventures
Ever dreamed of hitting the open road on the modern reincarnation of a classic motorbike – of cruising along with a group of friends, heading off road – following small tracks and trails – the bike taking it all in its stride as you glide and swoop!
Well we can make this happen with some classic (but almost new!) Royal Enfield motorbikes – the Himalaya in particular is so suited to the vastness of Africa … cruising comfortably on the road and easily coping with the bush tracks.
These trips are not like our ‘over the edge – wilderness motorbike exploration’ where you carry everything yourself …. On this trip there will be a support car with you bags etc – overnights will be in a mixture of camps, lodges and hotels and far more comfortable – but don’t be lulled into thinking this is an easy trip! – the adventure, the effort, the sweat area all real!

Dhow Adventure – At The Mercy Of The Wind
The great trading dhows used to sail one way from the Arabian Peninsular then wait for the wind to change before saling back …a few days of dhow sailing and you will realize why! These boats are notoriously difficult to tack and sail upwind ….. but there is an elegant timelessness to them.
Taking on all our supplies on the Tanzanian Mainland coast we will set sail in an open thirty-foot dhow for the distant island of Pemba – a 40-mile open ocean crossing. With no ‘crew’ just ourselves to sail the boat. Perhaps some fishing along the way …these waters are rich in Tuna and there is always the chance of snagging a sailfish or the even more elusive Marlin.
Pemba island is idyllic – plenty of chance to swim and snorkel and we attempt to circumnavigate the island – weather willing.
For those with more time and adventure in their hearts we can sail to the spice island of Zanzibar and on down to Mafia Island – great open water adventures in this iconic boat.
Kayaking Adventures
From early days white water paddling in the UK and Europe through sea kayaking expeditions int he Far East to extended expeditions in the USA we have always loved kayak adventures.
There are plenty of opportunities to pick from ….too many to list here but here are a couple of thoughts for you to build on – from relaxed and supported coast hopping to more hard core expeditions …
The Tanzanian coast …. What better way to relax and unwind than hopping along the Indian Ocean coast of Tanzania – full of hidden sandy bays, benign weather, warm water and great snorkelling – the trip would be fully supported by a vehicle so no need to carry all your kit in the kayak – just get out there and have fun! ….. trips form 3 days to 2 weeks!!!
Perhaps something a little more hard core and adventurous – how about a 10 day expedition self-supported expedition on Lake Tanganyika – the vast fresh water lake is perfect for kayaks – plenty of bays and islands to explore.
Lake Victoria To The Indian Ocean Off Road Adventure
Looking for a challenge, perhaps a bit of competition?
We may have the perfect trip for you …. An adventure (or a race!) from the shores of Lake Victoria – the heart of Africa – all the way to a deserted beach on the shores of the Indian ocean – or if you are really competitive to a small tidal sand island about 5 miles offshore!
With as few ‘rules’ as possible (the main one being no tarmac roads!) the route will need to be planned and you will be as self sufficient as you possibly can be – navigating your way cross country, around and over natural obstacles from mountain ranges to deep gorges – stopping to camp from the back of your vehicle at night and sitting around the campfire under the star-studded African sky.
This is a chance to get away from it all and put all your skill and ingenuity to the test – will you make it in one piece!??
Fishing Extraordinaire
We LOVE fishing ….. whether its hiking high in Yellowstone to flyfish the pristine rivers and pools or it’s the exhilaration of tuna fishing and the thrashing melee as the tuna force a bait ball to the surface …. Or perhaps kayaking across the sand flats casting for the elusive tarpon …. We love it all!
Mountain Bike Odessey
Imagine endless single track riding in the pristine wilderness – this is what its like in Africa. We have pioneered some incredible route from a few days to a week or more …all off road and all through incredible country – seeing wildlife and meeting Massai herders on your journey. A pick up will follow behind with a camp and each night you will sit around a roaring campfire and talk about your day and plan for the days ahead.
This is the quintessential journey – wilderness riding with a guide as Africa unfolds ahead of you. We can work with you on the route and the length of the days – for the hard core riders there are hills to be climbed and many many miles to be covered – for the more relaxed …. Less miles, later starts, more food, more stops, more wine and more chilled!!
